"Over the past 13 years, at least 26 states have begun requiring Medicaid coverage for doulas, according to the National Health Law Program’s Doula Medicaid Project. Four states — Arkansas, Colorado, Louisiana and Rhode Island — require some private plans to do the same."

"Crane slid her prototype onto a table holding a number of others, and retreated to the radiator. She was validated when one of the ad men the company hired picked hers out of the lineup and complimented it.

'This is the one we’re using, right?' he asked her boss. 'Oh no, that’s just something Meg did for talking purposes,' he replied. That line, especially, is burned into her memory."

For decades, its inventor has watched others take credit. That’s starting to change

"The research focused on three classes of commonly used pesticides — organophosphates, pyrethroids and carbamates — and found that several ingredients were linked to lower Apgar scores for women who gave birth and lived within roughly 500 yards of where pesticides had been sprayed on crops."

"I obtained a video recording of Doyley’s court hearing. Watching her argue her case from her hospital bed shocked me. Even though courts have found time and time again that you can’t force someone to undergo medical treatment — even if it could save someone else’s life — the video underscored for me how pregnant women are the rare exception."

"A 31-year-old Georgia woman has been charged with murder by police who say she took pills to induce an illegal abortion.

If state prosecutors decide to move forward with the murder charge brought by local police against Alexia Moore, her case would be one of the first instances of a woman being charged for terminating a pregnancy in Georgia since it passed a 2019 law banning most abortions."

Georgia woman faces murder charge in medication abortion case

A 31-year-old Georgia woman has charged with murder by police who say she took pills to induce an abortion. Alexia Moore has been jailed in Camden County since March 4. An arrest warrant obtained by a police investigator says Moore arrived at a hospital Dec. 30 complaining of abdominal pain and told medical staff she had taken a drug used in medical abortions. The warrant says the fetus survived about an hour after being delivered. A 2019 Georgia law 2019 bans abortion after embryonic cardiac activity can be detected, typically about six weeks into a pregnancy. The Georgia Public Defender Council, which is representing Moore, did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.

"Mary Ziegler, a professor at the University of California-Davis School of Law, said the proposed legislation would insulate crisis pregnancy centers from having to meet the standards that medical organizations face. It would blur the line between advocacy and medical practice, she said. And such legislation provides Republicans with a potentially useful campaign message ahead of midterm elections."

That’s after Gov. Mark Gordon signed a ban on most abortions on March 9, despite saying in a letter he expects legal challenges could find the new law violates the state’s constitution."
