A Cessna 208B Caravan, one of the world's most popular cargo planes, took off and landed in Hollister, California, without a pilot on board. The 80-kilometer flight, which lasted approximately 12 minutes, was controlled from a remote command center by Reliable Robotics, the developer of this innovative system that promises to revolutionize and improve the safety of all types of aircraft. The plane flew without human control, with the pilot monitoring the system and handling different flight phases such as taxiing, takeoff, and landing. The company has been working with Textron Aviation, the Cessna manufacturer, to make this technology commercially viable. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved the Cessna's flight as a test, but Reliable Robotics still needs certification to bring its technology to a commercial scenario. The company aims to sell its product to different clients in the future.
