I used a old canvas of mine from 20 years ago to make this collage. You can’t see much if it now, but good background colors. I’ve got so many art supplies that I am just trying to use up! I’m focused on all my scraps and trying to reuse/repurpose all the old pieces I never finished or never really liked. Like spring, it is a period of rebirth for these forgotten treasures! 😂

magnolia trees are one of the best parts of spring in Chicagoland. The appearance of the flowers, even before they open are so hopeful and when they bloom, they are so beautiful. But there is a sadness when they blame as well, for they are so short-lived. Their trees that bloom one day and because of fierce winds have few blossoms left the next. But they are incredible and incredibly old!

It was spring cleaning trash day last week so of course I pulled lots of potential canvases from the piles- including this little board. Then I got some beautiful new turquoise paint ($1 on sale!). And the flowers are all busting open. And it’s sunny for the first time in too many days…. Thank goodness for that since the rest of my country feels anything but sunny or hopeful. So I resist with joy and color and sharing.

Yellow-Crowned Night Herons are awesome birds. I had never seen one before I ran into a tree by North Pond that they nested in back five or six years ago. They were such strange-looking, beautiful creatures. I have delighted in seeing many in the following years as well as baby YCNHs (who are brown and spotted so they look just like part of a log!).

This is one of my favorite birds. I first saw in Cuidate del Carmen in Campeche, Mexico. I couldn’t even believe it was real.
