Jimmy Scott, Falling In Love Is Wonderful, 1963 on Tangerine Records

American jazz vocalist sometimes referred to as “Little” Jimmy Scott, who had a very high contralto voice due to Kallmann’s syndrome, a genetic condition.Scott performed in the final episode of Twin Peaks which led to a bit of a career resurgence in the 1990s.

This album was out of print between the 1963 release and a 2002 reissue (on CD) by Rhino / Warner Bros. It’s a wonderful album and the reissue is very well done.

My copy is a 2024 Vinyl Me, Please reissue in the Classics series (VMP C091), with lacquers cut by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound – which replicates (other than the RIM text) the original label.

The Sabres of Paradise have reissued two of their seminal mid-90s albums, Sabresonic and Haunted Dancehall, on Warp Records. 🎵 #reissue

One of the most meticulously crafted noise-reissues I've seen is the Slave Labour – Vol. I and II 4xCD box by Dada Drumming. In addition to the excellent noise – a collaboration between Lingula (David Gilden & Richard Ramirez) and Macronympha – there is a lot of explicit content, both in text and imagery, in this box.

Gus Cannon, Walk Right In, 1963 on Stax

Jug Band leader Gus Cannon started recording in the late 20s as “Banjo Joe” and reappeared as part of the folk revival in the 50s on Folkways. This was his first and only Stax LP released in 1963.

“Walk Right In” the song became a hit for the Rooftop Singers – who were credited with songwriting without mention of Cannon. The success of the song (and the Rooftop Singers album titled after it) “provided the impetus” as Bob Altshuler’s liner notes (from 1963) put it “to record an album of music by Gus Cannon.” Great early country blues / jug band but recorded with 1963 Stax equipment.

My copy is the Vinyl Me, Please 2024 reissue on yellow vinyl (E142 in the Essentials track), which is a great Craft Recordings pressing and comes with an “Art Print” of a show poster for the Banjo & Elixir Medicine Show.
