Kosmos is an unwieldy, messy, sprawling work. There are many moments of brilliance and striking visuals. But all that chaos is what Erdem is intending to show. The film is definitely not a moral lesson, there is no ultimatum or strong message. That the world is indeed chaotic, indecipherable and mysterious. The director leaves it at that. Perhaps not narratively satisfying, but Kosmos is full of beauty and wonder. #rehaerdem #turkishcinema
Hayat, her dad & her granddad live in a shack near the water. They barely eke out a living w/her dad’s peddling- using his boat to transport drugs & prostitutes to the sailors. Despite her dysfunctional home life, daily bullying at school & sexual harassments, nothing seems to faze Hayat. It’s her defiance to the world's pigeonholing her that’s admirable. #HayatVar is filled with the sound constant foghorns, streets, animals, water & Hayat's humming. #turkishcinema #RehaErdem #cinematography
