Local authorities, over 289 million from the region for the municipalities

Funds of over 289 million euros to Sicilian municipalities. With a decree by the Regional President, Renato Schifani, acting as Deputy Minister of Local Autonomy, it was established the criteria for the distribution of regional resources to local authorities for 2026.

“Even this year, thanks to the timely approval of the Stability Law – says Schifani – we promptly adopted the distribution plan, respecting the deadlines for the disbursement of the first three quarterly installments of the annual amount destined for each municipality. This is a significant result for the mayors, as they can count on certain resources and ensure the proper functioning of the administrations. Our goal is to ensure that Sicilian municipalities operate efficiently, offering citizens quality services within certain deadlines.”

Based on the decree, resources will be allocated to municipalities for the first three quarterly installments. Local authorities, except those in state of emergency, are required to spend at least two percent of the allocated funds to promote participatory democracy that, through tools involving citizenship, lead to public actions of common interest for the community.

Disasters Affect Us All, Differently

Evidence of women’s increased vulnerability is in the pre-existing social and cultural demands on women and girls as primary caregivers with the imbalanced responsibilities for care of the elderly, children and the sick. This care work increases in the immediate aftermath of a disaster and continues long after.
