#OTD in 1943 Brigadier-General Giulio Martinat, Chief of Staff of the Corpo d'Armata Alpino (within ARMIR), was killed during the Battle of Nikolayevka. He was was leading his men out of the Soviet encirclement during Little Saturn when he was killed. 40 officers and thousands of soldiers died that day.
