Juvenile Red-headed Woodpecker lacking the characteristic coloration. Male and female adults are monomorphic - they are indistinguishable in the woods. Juveniles will retain this drab coloration for a year or more before developing the characteristic coloration.

Red-headed Woodpecker celebrating a pecan. Will stay with woodpeckers for a while. Seem to be at a point of max pain with the PT on the replaced knee, so a bit overwhelmed with the unending pain and the constant flow of lies and hatred from the gop. We are a v. small blue dot in a deeply racist, homophobic, misogynist, ... red state.

Red-headed Woodpeckers - one of our common medium-sized Woodpeckers. Present in the central and eastern US, we should se it year-round, but that varies depending on acorn production. If acorns of abundant, red-headed woodpeckers are abundant. These are vocal, gregarious birds that celebrate finding, hiding and stealing acorns. The are also excellent fly-catchers. Beautiful birds to see.
