To any new arrivals here on the fediverse - you are welcome here.
Any step one can make to move away from the domination of proprietary platforms, technologies and all kinds of billionaires and fascists, is a potentially good thing. Things might be confusing to you at first, as all change can be difficult. Things are definitely not perfect here either and the fediverse has its own set of problems, but there are many helpful and friendly communities here. I wish you that you find your people (and foxes, and cats etc)
I would also like to respectfully ask the people who moved here to refrain from calling yourself #TwitterRefugee or #RedditRefugee or anything like that. An alternative is simply saying that you left a certain platform, or moved away.
I would like to encourage you to learn more about what it is like to be a refugee, and if it is possible for you, consider donating to organizations that help refugees. One such example of an organization is: https://www.pah.org.pl/en/ukraine
Being a refugee is tied to a lot of harship and severe trauma, to put it mildly, and using this word to describe changing social media platforms is not adequate.
@whatstheruckus Sorry, I'm still not that good with the mechanizations of the "Federation" yet (I feel like I joined StarTrek), so I inadvertently filched a re-post of yours from another ... planet?
I wanted to mention, if you're still getting used to this format as am I, using a hashtag for #reddit and #redditrefugee, etc., will connect you with others who migrated here, as well. I noticed them on my general timeline, though I'm not in that group, but it might help you find your peeps?
