I finished reading Red Star Over China this part week and was impressed. Reading some of the first interviews with Mao, before the civil war was over, was really interesting. After hearing about how much people in the US hate him for my whole life, and having only read some of his own words, getting insights from someone who met him has given a lot of food for thought.

At one point in the book an officer in the Red Army mentions a compilation of experiences of the Long March. When i looked it up, it turns out much of it later made it's way into a Simone De Beauvoir book, so I found a cheap used copy online and it's on the way :)
