Same also applies to other places and their dominant (electronics retailers) i.e. BestBuy/Walmart/Target in the USA…

OFC mandating a no-#OS / #FLOSS option at purchase would be a vital part of it.

@fschaap @netopwibby yeah, but why is it in the drawer (besides #FirefoxOS being let to die prematurely)...

We may be aware of Firefox OS' existance in the past but it was never even tried to be sold anywhere to any effect.

And believe me, both @fuchsiii and I tried to get our hands on any device that came with it and I've never heard of the #ZTE Open C before, much less any device being sold in #Germany which is absolutely flabberghasting to me given that in the late 2000s and early 2010s #Mozilla #Firefox was the dominant #Browser in Germany and thus had the best chance to leverage that customer base with good integrations like #MozillaPocket / #FirefoxPocket.

I still love #Fennec aka. #FirefoxMobile but I'm still mad at @Mozilla for not even trying to sell me a device, cuz I was at the time literally shouting: "#ShutUpAndTakeMyMoney!" and searched the (back then 4) MNOs' and their (half a dozen) MVNOs' stores (both retail and online) and never came across a Firefox OS device.

Same with (online) electronics retailers: NONE of them even had a single listing when I looked for those.

Which reminds me of the (coined by me term) "#RedBlueIndex" [named after the parent company that owns both #Saturn and #MediaMarkt, the two biggest, spechalized electronics retailers]:

If you can't find a product on shelf at Saturn/MediaMarkt, it doesn't exist in the minds and conciousness of the average #consumers!

@katnjiapus it's because of what I call "#RedBlueIndex" (named after the holding company owning the two biggest electronics tetailers in #Germany, #Saturn & #MediaMarkt):

Only what people see ib stores exists to them!

Thus they see #Apple devices that are more expensive than ever before and are less compatible than anything since the switch from #PowerPC to #ix86 and all the garbage prebuilds with #WinShit on them because retailers get paid to not offer #Linux and the big OEMs get paid $25 for every #preinstall if #Windows10 & #Windows11...

I wish I was wrong, but #Microsoft paying #Toshiba / #Dynabook, #hp, #Dell, #Lenovo and #Fujitsu is the result if them threatening to ship @ubuntu / #UbuntuLTS instead of #Windows7 / #Windows8 on #Workstation and low-end office machines if they don't get discounts...

Same with #refurbishers that pay less than €10 per key in return for not shipping Linux...

That's why you don't see Linux machines in stores.

And I want @[email protected] / @Bundesregierung & @EU_Commission to actually investigate that sooner than later...

What I do think is missing is a more visible presence of @ubuntu / #UbuntuLTS on #StoreShelves...

I call this the #RedBlueIndex [named after the holding corporation that owns #Saturn & #MediaMarkt]:

If a product is not on their store shelves, #TechIlliterates and other #Normies won't even acknowledge it's existance...

I do think that #Ubuntu - like any proper #Linux and #Unix-esque distro needs to be more present, as #Microsoft's #Windows11 creates a metric fuckton of #eWaste with their #TPM 2.0 bullshit and #Refurbishers should take the opportunity to offer better deals whilst passing through to customers at least parts of the saved ~ €17 otherwise paid for a #Windows MAR key...

But that would mean one would have to put in effort and let people actually experience what a good #OS Linux can be, and that's not what they want to do...
