Everything But The Girl, Night and Day, 1982 on Cherry Red

Another one that originally came out as a single in the early eighties (1982) but was reissued in 2022 on Record Store Day, in this case with the same three tracks (“Feeling Dizzy” and “On My Mind” on the b-side) but as a 12″ 45rpm record.

I’m a massive fan of EBTG so was super excited to find this at Joe’s Albums in Worcester. It was half-speed mastered at Abbey Road by Miles Showell and released on clear vinyl to celebrate the 40th anniversary – limited to 2000 copies, though they are not numbered.

Chet Baker, Chet Baker Sings & Plays, 1967 on Joker

Recorded in 1959 in Milan, this was first issued in Italy as Angel Eyes on Celson, and in the US as Chet Baker With Fifty Italian Strings on Jazzland, both in 1960. It was the reissued as Chet Baker Sings and Plays by Joker Hi-Fi Records (Italy) in 1967. It’s also been called Chet Baker with Len Mercer & His Orchestra.

My copy is a 2022 Record Store Day Black Friday reissue on red vinyl by SAAR Records, which replicates the Joker labels from 1967.

Of course there’d already been Chet Baker Sings and another album called Chet Baker Sings and Plays (both on Pacific) – not sure if the reissue here wanted to evoke that earlier album. More likely they were just downplaying the strings – fifty Italian strings sounds like too many, and probably is.

Chet Baker, Chet Baker Sings, 1956 on World Pacific Records | Goatless

Chet Baker is on of my all time favorite jazz trumpeters and singers. The tone in both his trumpet and his voice is just amazing - subtle, warm, smooth. This recorded was recorded in LA (the Forum Teater & Capitol Studios) by Allan Emig and Phil Turetsky. Sleeve notes by Gerald Heard, pictured on the

Townes Van Zandt, At My Window, 1987 on Sugar Hill

Van Zandt’s eighth studio album and only one recorded in the 1980s, originally released on the bluegrass label Sugar Hill. I never miss a chance to pick up a Townes Van Zandt record in good shape.

Recorded at Jack Clement’s studio in Nashville (“Cowboy Arms Hotel and Recording Spa”) and produced by Clement and Jim Rooney. Great versions of “For the Sake of the Song” and “Gone, Gone Blues” and the title track.

My copy – via Pitchford Records in Concord NH – is the 2022 Craft reissue for Record Store Day 2022 on blue vinyl.

Just checked out four different record stores today around my neighborhood for #RecordStoreDay2022, and Deep Cuts in Ridgewood is definitely the least douchiest among them all. Highly recommend them :)

Various Artists, Tommy Boy’s Baddest Beats, 2022 on Tommy Boy

I don’t normally chase special releases put out for Record Store Day, but this was an “RSD First” release in 2022, limited to 3500 copies. Great collection of songs from Tommy Boy:

Naughty By Nature – Hip Hop Hooray

Stetsasonic – Talkin’ All That Jazz

Queen Latifah – Wrath of My Madness

Less rain, more people. Showing up ridiculously early was a good (if slightly boring) move! The kid sitting next to my chair got here at 4, and the flood gates opened at 5:30. Been steady since. 50⁰ here right now, which is excellent considering... #RSDBlackFriday #rsd #recordstoreday2022 #recordstoreday #vinyl #VinylCollecting
