Essays, short texts and books more people should read, to be more thoughtful and/or happier people.

I'm making a personal website with a realist/geek/humanist view of life.

I know there must be a hundred, but my mind went blank after "On Bullshit", a 1986 essay by Harry Frankfurt.

For example, I know there must be several pleas to keep software usable and resilient by making it smaller and simpler, but I can't remember the names.

TVMIA if anyone will contribute.

So, you know when you have a hair product you really like and the company discontinues it? That happened a little while ago with my fave #Maui conditioner (the one with hempseed oil) and I'm making a list of potential replacements. The stock is drying up now, so this is the time to check. I know if I prepare too soon, the best alternatives will have been discontinued too.

For reference, my hair is mostly type 3. I think I have all the subtypes across my scalp so the abc isn't as useful. Low porosity hair. Likes moisture, does not like "repair" conditioners that have a bunch of protein to add structure. Those just weigh it down. Attached a picture for reference.

looking for recommendations on a small, preferably cheap projector. It seems like there's no shortage of possibly-junk mini projectors out there (sub $200). How do I tell the difference? I'm hoping to use it for art and mural painting. ideally works without some bullshit spyware app and can do weird angle throws. don't need video at all, so higher res photo is good. #projector #foss #RecommendationWanted #art

Suche nach einer deutschsprachigen #Mastodon #Instanz mit guter Moderation betreffend jeglicher Feindlichkeiten. Wegen persönlicher Betroffenheit würde mich #Antisemitismus, #Transfeindlichkeit, #Ableismus besonders stören.
Fokus: Alltag, bzw. keiner. Gern mit Technik, Natur, Hunden, verträumten Menschen, und denen, deren Leben nicht so fadengerade verläuft.

I'm looking for recommendations for free (as in gratis) offline photo collage software for Windows.

#PhotoscapeX does a pretty good job, but the free version is limited to just a few arrangements per amount of pictures inserted, and doesn't allow saving the project unless you upgrade to the pro version (which is about 409 NOK, which is a bit too steep for the few added features that I'd be interested in).

Thinking about starting another simple newsletter. Looking for a hosted newsletter service that is …

- simple (i.e., non of that good ol' MailChimp overkill)
- GDPR compliant
- affordable (€10/month tops for 2k subscribers)
- run by a small business (decent people preferred) and not a surveillance capitalist outfit

I don't need crazy-ass statistics or a super-involved writing UI. I want to write Markdown, and a rather streamlined workflow.

Any pointers welcome. Thanks!
