After Cristina Rad’s accusations about #LawrenceKrauss I was happy to reject him for good even though I'd enjoyed his debates on religion.

But I never knew what to do with #RichardDawkins. Certainly people I respected in turn respected him, his work seemed quite perceptive, and his debates with theists were incisive and civil.

But he also behaved in ways I found bizarre, and I was left just appreciating his good work but not amplifying him in any way because I didn’t know who I would have been amplifying.

Now I do.

I like a lot of people who were in the so-called #Skeptic movement, including #RebeccaWatson (whose video below sparked this post). But the reason I left it is the only major difference I could see between them and, well, just ordinarily educated people (and many 'uneducated' ones) was that they called themselves "Skeptics".

Often they were as credulous as most people. It mostly depended , like the rest of us, on what people around them were saying. Not some kind of special quality of "scepticism."

They also seemed, no surprise, to struggle with the same ethical issues we all do. So it was zero surprise to me that their numbers, especially among the powerful ones, included some very awful people. By the time I left, I wouldn't even say I was disillusioned so much as enlightened.

There's no such thing as scepticism. Sorry, there just isn't. (But I still like you a lot Rebecca! Keep up the good work.)
