Of 25,838 adult undergraduates at 199 institutions in 42 U.S. states:

43.2% of adult undergraduates experienced food insecurity.

60.6% experienced housing insecurity.

This is absolutely horrific. And I am seeing it personally in my own family in a painful way (see https://gofund.me/f25255ef). It feels like as hard as we are fighting, it just gets worse and worse. Madness, and cruelty.

I read Haidt’s piece in the Atlantic and he lost me when he said he doesn’t allow electronic devices in his classes at all.

Ok, so… what about the students with accommodations? They just don’t take your class? Explain that to Disability Services. It must be nice to be in such a position of privilege.

People like that can go and play in a microwave tbh.

It only took four years after reading @SaraGoldrickRab 's #BasicNeeds #RealCollege work and two years of a mass student-led movement to end unpaid practicums in #SocialWork (Payment4Placments)... but this #ParticipatoryActionResearch project is live!

We need to have more on-ramps to expand pathways to #STEM opportunity, across P-20 #education. This includes inclusive learning and making sure students' basic needs are met. #RealCollege #NoJargon #EdEquity

Invisible Barriers in STEM Education | Scholars Strategy Network

In the American school system, math and science are considered essential building blocks of a good education. But for many students, those building blocks can topple over somewhere along the way. We spoke to Professor Lara Perez-Felkner, who laid out invisible barriers faced by racially minoritized and economically disadvantaged students pursuing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics).

The New Federal Strategic Plan on Ending Homelessness Falls Short for #RealCollege Students

📣 Do “completion grants” like those used at Georgia State improve graduation rates?

My latest paper just out from @IESResearch indicates it’s not likely. The funds flow to students who’d likely graduate anyway.

#RealCollege is the experience of #TodaysStudents - the majority

Community colleges and broad access public universities *are* real colleges and where most people attend college.

Nearly all college students work and/or care for family. 1 in 5 has a #kid. Many are over 25 and *all* are #adults and #humans first.

Please join me in busting stereotypes & reshaping public perception of #education beyond high school - use the #RealCollege hashtag to share and educate.
