What is a book you like to read when feeling down? #Books #ReadingSuggestions #Ask_fedi

Today I'm in the mood of expressing gratitude for the work of colleagues that influenced and inspired me. Plus, it's the #IWD26 so, here we are.

TLDR - if you're interested in complex systems and AI, do yourself a favor: read works by @melaniemitchell

Specifically, a great introductory work on complex systems is her book "Complexity: A Guided Tour" - https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5597902-complexity

About AI, I suggest her more recent "Artificial Intelligence: A Guide for Thinking Humans" - https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/43565360-artificial-intelligence

If you don't want to take my words for granted, take a peek at her substack - https://aiguide.substack.com/ - you will get a taste of her unique mix of competence, depth of analysis, and clarity.

You can thank me later.

The #HugoAwards nomination e-mail just got in. Any #SFF #ReadingSuggestions from the last year that would be eligible? I mainly read / watch stuff that's a bit older and therefore cheaper, but I would appreciate a couple of pointers.

I liked his suggestions, and since he loved some of the books I love, I assume I will enjoy the books I haven't yet read that he liked. Like "Shikasta: Re, Colonised Planet 5", by Doris Lessing. I've liked the other books by her, so I have good hopes this will be a good read. #books #ReadingSuggestions

Sooo, #mastodon , let me pick your brain here...
With the weekend coming up, thought I would take the opportunity to ask for #ReadingSuggestions in long or medium form from all of you lovely folk that I have never met

Something in the format of pieces in the Guardian or the Economist, but with a penchant for #Medicine #Science #MedicalHistory #HistoryOfScience
I read science everyday but sometimes I think I should have it explained by a journalist first because I would retain more on first pass. That's the sort of reader I am.

#GeneralCulture or maybe even some light philosophy?
Something to understand the current times? Light #economy or #geopolitics, but no specific or heavy politics please.

Would love it if were a site or feed or whatever with recurring publications not just random pieces, but if you have good ones I will take them!

I read in English, Italian and Portuguese.

Thank you, you wonderful Tooters!
