Abdumanap Hakimjan was in his 50s when in 2019 he was arrested and imprisoned. In 2013, Hakimjan, in his official capacity as deputy head of the Ghulja County Natural Resources Department, supported some Uyghurs who were trying to resist selling their farmland to a Chinese company. In 2017, he was committed to a "re-education camp" and, in 2019, he was sentenced to 10 years in the Karbugra Prison.
