A seed of an idea for a #Ravenloft Darklord and domain:

You know that trope, particularly popular in harder and/or mid-20th-Century sci-fi, of the "Hard Man Making Hard Choices", glorifying protagonists' ability to make brutally pragmatic choices that secure partial victories at steep costs?

That *screams* to be deconstructed in Darklord form.

Today I'm doing a little prep for Monday's #ravenloft #dnd game. The party's in the midst of the House of Lament, and their paladin got ganked by a Carrionette. These little guys do a soul swap, meaning the player's body is now possessed and hostile to the party, and in an hour the player gets to play as themselves in a doll body.

Normally, anwyay...

See... last week when this happened, we watched in horror as the remaining party curb stomped the unconscious creature before we could reveal the swap. So now its in pieces, and we're hoping against hope it'll occur to them to mend it up.

Last night's #Ravenloft #dnd game went great. I'm using the House of Lament, but instead I a singular 'awakening' for the haunted house, I set up a path that takes the characters back and forth between the two states for a very Silent Hill vibe. The players stumbled into the first transition point at the master bedroom and when they made their way back to the parlor, Erasmus is there and corporeal while the rest of their companions are barely perceptible wisps
