Another exciting brand new flower opened up today: Impatiens namchabarwensis!
Found only in a very limited range in Namcha Barwa Canyon in the Indian Himalayas, this species is a small branching shrub that grows as a sensitive perennial, or annual in areas that experience frost. It is a very rapid grower (I only started seeds maybe 3 months ago and they includes the stratification time) and forms these lovely indigo to almost sapphire blue slipper-shaped blooms, in large numbers once it’s fully established. I’ll have to be careful when the seedpods develop though as, like many of its relatives, they’re explosive when they ripen.

Second time it’s come into bloom (but no gemmae yet annoyingly): the true Drosera allantostigma.
A simple but attractive flower on one of two stalks the bloomer is making, and simple rosette…but belies the rarity of the species both in the wild and in trade.

Amorphophallus ongsakulii, back in bloom.
I get more requests in the Shop for when this goes back in stock than pretty much anything else…but they can only produce so many offshoots in a year. And first they use up energy making a few of these tiny blooms to enjoy, off of a tuber that even mature is hardly as big around as my thumb tip.

The other side of *Nepenthes veitchii* — this is the Bario "Striped" × "Green Peristome" cross, and what a contrast to its more intensely coloured cousins. Where some veitchii forms go full burgundy and gold, this one keeps things fresh and architectural: broad waxy leaves in cool blue-green, and pitchers with a subtle, understated elegance. The peristome is softer in colour but still beautifully ribbed, and that distinctive veitchii shape — wide, squat, and almost architectural — is unmistakable.

Bario is a highland plateau in Sarawak, Borneo, known for some of the most sought-after *N. veitchii* populations in cultivation. Fresh release from 2025 — this one has a lot of growing to do. 🌿

De peristoom is zachter van kleur maar nog steeds prachtig geribbeld, en die kenmerkende veitchii-vorm — breed, gedrongen en bijna architecturaal — is onmiskenbaar.

Two Sulawesi highlands giants in one plant — this is *Nepenthes tenuis × peltata*, a seedgrown cross from Taerwe Tropicals that combines the dark, inky foliage of *N. tenuis* with the bold, spotted pitchers of *N. peltata*. The result is striking: deep burgundy-green leaves with a metallic sheen, and squat, heavily mottled pitchers with a thick, rolled peristome that means serious business. 🪰

Both parent species grow at high elevation on the island of Sulawesi, making this cross a true highland plant at heart — and one that rewards patience with pitchers like these.

This is *Nepenthes truncata* from Mindanao, Philippines — and it's still just a baby. Those broad, wavy leaves with their distinctively truncated (cut-off) tips are already unmistakable, and the pitchers opening up now hint at what's to come: one of the largest and most dramatic pitchers in the entire genus.

*N. truncata* is notorious for eventually producing pitchers that can hold several litres of digestive fluid — large enough to trap not just insects, but the occasional small vertebrate. For now though, this one is quietly building up its strength. Patience is part of the game with this species. 🌿

*N. truncata* staat erom bekend uiteindelijk bekers te maken die meerdere liters spijsverteringsvloeistof kunnen bevatten — groot genoeg om niet alleen insecten te vangen, maar af en toe ook kleine gewervelden. Voorlopig bouwt dit exemplaar rustig krachten op. Geduld is de sleutel bij deze soort. 🌿

Stripes on stripes. This is *Nepenthes veitchii* (Mt. Murud "Striped" × "Candy Striped") — a horticultural cross that takes the already iconic veitchii peristome and turns it up to eleven. The boldly banded collar of yellow, orange and red is what makes *N. veitchii* one of the most sought-after Nepenthes in cultivation, and this particular cross delivers exactly that in abundance.

Native to the rainforests of Borneo, *N. veitchii* is an obligate epiphyte in the wild — clinging to tree trunks high above the forest floor. Those wide, flared leaves with their clasping bases are perfectly adapted for exactly that lifestyle. 🌿

While I recently unexpectedly lost my best pure Nepenthes naga to rot, I might be of the opinion that this naga PB x truncata Pasian is better anyway. Similar shape and colors but just a pinch more elegant…and darker.
