We received these images from Ramez, a protest organizer in Gaza. They’re part of an initiative in a campaign by the Gazan Youth Committee, in which activists hold photos of Israeli children killed on October 7th and after, inspired by the silent vigils held by Israeli activists.

# 2/4

The Gazan Youth Committee had seen silent protests in Israel where activists held photos of Palestinian children killed in Gaza, which had been organized by Standing Together and large collectives of independent activists, and wanted to stand in solidarity.

# 3/4

They also shared this message: “Even though we live under siege, hunger, death, and displacement – we do not turn our backs on peace. Even when the world turns its back on us, we do not give up the responsibility to speak in the name of peace.”

# 4/4

Ramez, whose children and cousins were killed in the war, said “we mourn with every Jewish, Christian, or Muslim family that lost a child in this war. Our pain does not blind us to the suffering of others.”

A question for Ramez Yoakeim
Q: What is your favourite part of writing?

A: When I'm writing, anything is possible, including giving this instinctive introvert a voice extending far beyond anything achievable on my own. It's also a sort of therapy as I inhabit a multitude of characters, each with their own backstories, perspectives, and conflicts, and in so doing discover otherwise...
