Why do we need a multitude of Pride flags for every little micro-identity? Why do we even need bi or trans or lesbian flags? Can’t we all just use the rainbow flag, since we’re all queer?

New York politicians defiantly raised a rainbow flag at the Stonewall National Monument amid a boisterous, cheering crowd. The flag raising Thursday rebuked the Trump administration for removing the well-known symbol of pride from the LGBTQ+ landmark. Until a few days ago, the flag had flown for several years on a flagpole in the tiny park at the heart of the National Park Service-run site. The park is across the street from the Stonewall Inn, the gay bar where a 1969 police raid sparked an uprising and helped catalyze the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement.

Every time I see a Pride Progress flag anywhere my heart fills up. Ironic as I’ve never been that keen on the design - it feels cluttered - and always used to feel the traditional rainbow flag was enough.
Mind you, ‘traditional rainbow flag’ - it actually feels like an achievement to be able to write that.
