President Kassym-Jomart #Tokayev of #Kazakhstan opened the first #metro line in the capital #Astana on May 16.

The 22.4km elevated light metro runs from Nurly Zhol, Astana’s main station, south via the national museum, Astana Arena and the university to the city’s international airport. The line has 18 stations of which 11 are at street level and seven are elevated.

Standard Chartered has arranged $US 2.3bn in syndicated financing for the Dar es Salaam - Mwanza Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) project in Tanzania.

Construction of the 120km high-speed line from #Hanoi to #Halong in the northern Vietnamese province of #QuangNinh has officially started, marked by a groundbreaking ceremony on April 12 that was attended by the prime minister of #Vietnam, Le Minh Hung.

Due for completion by the end of 2028, the line will cut the journey time between Hanoi and Halong to 23 minutes.

The deputy prime minister of #Vietnam, Ho Duc Phoc, has approved the restructuring of #VietnamRailways over the period from 2026 to 2030, including the adoption of an operating model based on a group structure of parent company and subsidiaries.

The parent company, Vietnam National Railways Group, will be a single-member limited liability company with 100% state-owned charter capital.
