If Dr. Jones had not been there to survive the opening of The Ark, then after those #nazis got their faces melted off, other nazis would have come back with blindfolds (or blinded people) and taken it. He secured it and made sure it got to safe storage.

The #BigBangTheoryTVshow supposition that he had no effect on the events in the movie misses this point.

The "good guys" don't end up with The Ark in storage without Jones securing it post face-melted-nazis

We are now as far from the release of #RaidersOfTheLostArk (1981) as the movie was from the events it depicted. Is there a term for this? Movie half-life?
