Let’s give this a shot! October is the perfect month to try and launch the #FediOTRClub where each week I will curate two hours worth of Old Time Radio stories for Fedi to listen to. Feel free to comment in with the hashtag when you get to listen, hoping commentary will help me pick future weeks shows. For October specifically I’m starting with the theme of #ChillingDaysOfYesteryear with classic horror and thriller shows all month.

1) “Sorry Wrong Number” – Suspense, May 25, 1943 (Starring Agnes Moorehead)
“The first broadcast of this thriller classic. Probably the best remembered program of the series. A bed ridden disabled woman battles the frustrations of the telephone system after she overhears a plot to murder someone!”

2) “Three Skeleton Key” – Escape, March 17, 1950 (Starring Vincent Price)
“This classic takes place on a remote lighthouse where the three light keepers that inhabit it suddenly have to deal with a ghost ship carrying thousands of rats that crashes into their Island key.”

3) “The Midnight Horseman” – Macabre, December 11, 1961. (fairly obscure program produced by the Armed Forces Radio and Television Service – Far East Network)
“A good screamer. A painting of a black knight...with occult powers! (The announcer mentions that it's Halloween, indicating a possible rebroadcast at a later date.)”
Listen:

4) “Return Trip” – Murder by Experts, September 19, 1949 (has also been dated September 5)
“The chilling story about an escaped homicidal maniac and a bus full of people trapped by an avalanche.”
Listen:

Feel to use any either hashtag to discuss this weeks shows and give me any feedback to help me curate future weeks.

Inspired by the source of a sample in one of my guest's tracks "Hit the moon", I am really intrigued to listening to some older #radiodrama|s based on #RayBradbury stories again. I just found an interesting list on the @internetarchive of some of his #radioplay|s on the #bbc.

Virginia Woolf's ground-breaking stream of consciousness novel, To The Lighthouse, is brought to life, in this splendid adaptation prepared especially for radio. Tune in for this masterpiece Saturday at noon. #books #communityradio #radiotheatre #virginiawoolf
#Today, I'm taking a new approach with my insomnia. Effective as of 2:45a, when I gave up, got up, and put on my headphones.

I figure if I'm not going to sleep, I might as well fill the time with something enjoyable
and productive. So, this morning, I completed listening to @ScottSigler's SLAY, the first season of his recently-renamed weekly podcast, Scott Sigler Slices. It's a fun romp, if you like bounty hunters, contract killers, drug dealers, and magic. And, as it turns out, I do! Listen here: https://scottsigler.com/blogs/podcast

After that, I started and almost finished
@[email protected]'s 2nd season of Small Victories, an up-close and raw look at addiction, coping, and surviving. And by "raw", I mean that's how it leaves your nerves feeling sometimes. Other times, you're laughing out loud. Kinda like life, yeah? It's a powerful tale. Listen here: https://www.wgcproductions.com/small-victories

But now the sun is up, and I've work to accomplish. Expect to see both of those shows in the Featured section of my newsletter at
https://theend.fyi in the coming weeks!

Sorry this issue of the newsletter is late. @evoterra switched mailing services and cocked up the scheduling. All better now.

The companion podcast episode is also (finally) published. That took forever because a) Evo has a nasty head cold and b) it's 44 minutes long, because we include trailers for all 13 shows that either wrapped a series last week, are recommendations for you this week, or have new seasons starting next week. Yes. 13. Wow. Good thing we use chapters so you can skip ahead!

Also, there's a brand new website experience that we're TOTALLY STOKED about. It's gonna let us do so much more. You gotta check it out! https://theend.fyi (and let's see how well it shares socially!)

The End | Completed Audio Fiction

The End is a directory with over 1,250 completed audio fiction—either at the series or season level—ready for you to listen to and enjoy at your pace. If you love fiction podcasts, audiodramas, radio plays, or audiobooks, This is what you've been waiting for!

The End | Completed Audio Fiction Directory
The next issue of The End will contain at least 18 fiction podcasts that have either reached a season finale or the series conclusion. Wow! And we still have a full day to collect more.

A big chunk of those will be in the New Seasons Coming Soon section, where 7 titles will be listed rather than the normal 2–3. And, looking ahead at my dataset, that'll be the norm for a while. And if all these shows who told me they were coming back in October actually do that, it'll be even bigger.

Wow. Time for some quality listening time, methinks!

And subscribe to The End, the weekly newsletter that shines a light back on audio fiction shows after they've reached the finale of a season or the conclusion of the series, at
https://theend.fyi. Please forward to a friend you know who loves fiction!

Are an #AudioFiction creator with a personal account on the Fediverse but not a show-level account?

I have an idea I want to test, but I need it to come from someone who fits that description. Reply here or DM me and I'll walk you through what I'm thinking about.
