So I just installed a sneaky guerilla Meshcore repeater so I can get over the Stanmore/Petersham hill. It seems to be working though my connection from home to it isn't as rock solid as I'd like...
I have another, much better, repeater I could install if you know anyone who lives on the Stanmore of Petersham hill which would give even better coverage!
I'd been playing around with Meshtastic for ages with the same frustration around that hill, but it seems Meshcore is much more established here in Sydney. Just that the most findable site about setting for NSW gives you the wrong radio config. (Australia (Narrow) is the preset you want.)
Anyone on here on the mesh?
A while ago I came across this site where you can tune into radio streams all over the world. It's great!
Anywho, this morning I tuned into a station in Texas and they have a show called “Trading on the radio" where people call in, state what they are giving away and their location…or what they need and their phone #. Ex:
"I've got a queen-size mattress I'm getting rid of. It's currently in the back of my pickup truck at 123 Willow Way” etc. Amazing.
Did you know there's a website that can tell you what radio stations you might be able to pick wherever you are in the US, as well as the signal's approximate strength based on location?

So I'm flipping through the manual for my new toy (I know, right?!?!) and I stumbled over an underreported feature that obsoletes something in my comms chain for D-STAR.
I am blown away!
Having to acclimate to my new maidenhead grid square. Seeing all kinds of crazy new stuff from this QTH.
Lots of old people with nothing to do means lots of check-ins on the 2m Net. Not the worst thing in the world, but dang. Long Net.
