#OTD John Trudell was born in 1946. He was the eloquent spokesperson for the United Indians of All Tribes’ famous takeover of Alcatraz, from 1969 to 1971, broadcasting at night as “Radio Free Alcatraz.” He later went on to a career in writing, poetry, music, and acting, as a healing response to the trauma of his family’s death due to a suspicious fire.
