Il ministero degli Esteri russo lancia l'allarme sulla petroliera della flotta fantasma alla deriva tra Malta e Lampedusa. "La nave ha subito gravi danni: a bordo si sentono forti rumori, si segnalano emissioni di gas, la nave si sta inclinando più rapidamente e sono stati avvistati incendi localizzati", ha dichiarato in un comunicato la portavoce del ministero degli Esteri russo, Maria Zakharova. La Arctic Metagaz, lunga 277 metri, ha a bordo 700 tonnellate di carburante e dal 3 marzo, quando fu raggiunta da droni ucraini, è alla deriva senza equipaggio. "Al momento dell'abbandono della nave, nelle sue cisterne erano ancora presenti carburante - 450 tonnellate di combustibile pesante e 250 tonnellate di gasolio - oltre a una quantità significativa di gas naturale", ha aggiunto la funzionaria.
Della petroliera ne ha parlato anche il sottosegretario alla presidenza del Consiglio, Alfredo Mantovano, ai microfoni di Radio 24: "I rischi sono enormi, ci si trova di fronte a una bomba ambientale. Questa imbarcazione è priva di equipaggio e non ci si può avvicinare, può esplodere da un momento all'altro. Se le autorità maltesi o l'Europa ce lo chiedessero, saremmo pronti a intervenire nel giro di pochissimo. Condividiamo il monitoraggio con Malta in tempo reale".

The Russian Foreign Ministry is raising the alarm about the oiler of the phantom fleet drifting between Malta and Lampedusa. “The ship has sustained serious damage: strong noises are heard on board, gas emissions are reported, the ship is tilting more rapidly, and localized fires have been spotted,” declared the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, in a statement. The Arctic Metagaz, which is 277 meters long, is carrying 700 tons of fuel and, since March 3rd, when it was reached by Ukrainian drones, has been adrift without a crew. “At the time of the ship’s abandonment, fuel was still present in its tanks – 450 tons of heavy fuel and 250 tons of diesel – as well as a significant quantity of natural gas,” the official added.
The oiler was also discussed by Deputy Prime Minister Alfredo Mantovano of the Council of Ministers on the microphones of Radio 24: “The risks are enormous, we are facing an environmental bomb. This vessel is without a crew and we cannot approach it; it could explode at any moment. If the Maltese authorities or Europe asked us, we would be ready to intervene within a very short time. We share real-time monitoring with Malta.”
