Nightbitch by Rachel Yoder #Nightbitch #RachelYoder #RecycleBookstore #SanJose

In this blazingly smart and voracious debut novel, an artist turned stay-at-home mom becomes convinced she's turning into a dog. • "A must-read for anyone who can’t get enough of the ever-blurring line between the psychological and supernatural that Yellowjackets exemplifies." —Vulture

Aside from all the death/funeral related content I consume, I typically read about 100 novels a year. Some stand apart from the others and bear multiple rereadings and recommendations. These are three, united by a theme of righteous feminine rage. They even follow a path through womanhood:

Nightbitch - the childbearing years, standing up against societal expectations and raging against the patriarchy

Lessons In Chemistry - the working mom years, standing up against societal expectations and raging against the patriarchy

The Change - the post menopausal years, standing up against societal expectations and raging against the patriarchy

I’m so glad books like this exist. I’m grateful to authors who prove that we can break free from internalized misogyny and embrace our rage. It’s not unfeminine to be angry, and we can be powerful at age stage of life.

Special thanks to Kirsten Miller (for the book mail and the kind words), Rachel Yoder (for responding to my fangirling and expressing interest in my own work), and Bonnie Garmus (whom I have not yet reached out to but admire nonetheless). Write on!

This is a thoughtful piece by #SophieVershbow, dogmom of #Simon, on #booktwitter. I miss the connections made with authors -- the opportunity to tell them how much I like their work and the thrill of hearing back! Happy to have found @claire and @matjohnson here. Still looking for #RachelYoder, #MauriceCarlosRuffin. https://www.esquire.com/entertainment/books/a42638589/book-twitter-end/?utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Lit%20Hub%20Daily:%20January%2030%2C%202023&utm_term=lithub_master_list
