I just got fed up with a tool and quick wrote and published a replacement tool. Enjoy!

This lets me install .deb files off the internet without typing any extra commands.

It is timely because microsoft, canonical, google, etc. are all going the other direction...

Android in particular is trying to lock down to prevent scammers, but at the expense of "power users..."

There is an element of power-grab in this dynamic.

Once again I'm glad to know about Etymonline.com, the (IMO best) online etymology source. TIL there's an app!

Said app clarified for me that "stanch" predates "staunch" by a century or so, the former from early 14thC Old French _estanchier_ "to cause to cease flowing" (my abridged version, as there's quite a bit more to the etymology). The latter is from early 15thC Old French _estanche_ "firm, watertight," which developed the sense (of persons) "standing firm and true to one's principles" by the 1620s.
