Just got back from the fanciest restaurant I've ever been to - the 2 Michelin Star Restaurant Sat Bains in Nottingham.

We've intended to go for years but never had the time (or the money!) so when our eldest presented us with a booking for Christmas, we were very pleased.

Hang the expense (and it was *very* expensive) - I have never eaten such incredible food anywhere. The word exquisite doesn't even come close.

Beans on toast for the rest of the year!

regulatory standards bill in a nutshell

It seeks to limit future lawmakers from introducing what Seymour considers unnecessary red tape into legislation, prioritising private property rights.

"The Regulatory Standards Bill has passed with the backing of the coalition parties.

National and New Zealand First agreed to pass the bill into law as part of their coalition agreements with ACT.

The bill has faced fierce pushback from the public, with more than 98 percent of public submissions opposed."

NZ First and the Regulatory Standards Bill: A Fatal Compromise?

NZ First rose to oppose neoliberal reforms. Now, by supporting the Regulatory Standards Bill, they risk entrenching them — handing Act new powers, weakening Parliament, and undermining New Zealand’s democracy.

Disinterpreted | Melanie Nelson

While the Deputy Prime Minister and other advocates continue to argue this bill is simply a technical measure, aimed at smoothing the legislative process, this is clearly not the case.

No political party in a coalition would threaten to bring down the Government over a trivial matter of that kind.

Anne Salmond: Freedom, for whom?

In the third-part of a series of columns on the Regulatory Standards Bill, Dame Anne Salmond argues most NZers would tell its proponents to 'get lost', and urges National to act.

In response to #RNZ publishing random reckons I thought this particular reckon deserved a complimentary counter reckon.

Here’s my reckon.

#NZPol PM Luxon is undeniably incompetent but if he is proven to be foolishly arrogant enough to ignore 90+% of the NZ public and pursue this unconstitutional and anti democratic #AtlasNetwork backdoor assault on NZ democracy and sovereignty then he and the National Party will suffer a backlash so severe he will be wishing he was still working as a simple deodorant salesman.

Unlike Luxon, imo, Winston Peters is neither naive or silly enough not to take advantage of this opportunity to poach a large proportional slice of the National and Act voter base and potentially force a snap election.

In conclusion, having watched much of the 30 hours of oral submissions on the #RSB I am honestly surprised by just how little media attention the devastating demolition of Act and in particular #DavidSeymour the Finance and Expenditure Committe has received.

Perhaps the #NZInitiative aka Atlas Network have threatened media with local advertising boycotts? After all the Act Party and its supporters did threaten and dox an active opponent to this legislation, lawyer Tania Waikato, to the extent she required a security escort when attending NZ Parliament to make her oral submission. These are not nice people, they are white collar criminals who operate like the mob.

Meanwhile NZ media suffers a growing distrust in its reporting…. Wonder why?

New Zealanders see him, and we don't like him. Yet here we are with legislation designed to make his narrow libertarian neoliberal perspective the yardstick by which we determine how this parliament makes laws. We are facing the serious prospect of enacting David Seymour's wet dream: the framework that has been proposed and turned down previously three times in parliament. A bill that goes against the advice of his own ministry." - David Small 🤭😂🤭😂 #Opposethisbill #Micdrop 🎤 | Te Pāti Māori
