16 years (minus 2 days) after the first #barebox release (v2009.12.0), we're happy to announce barebox v2025.12.0!

On top of a healthy amount of cleanup and bug fixes, 2 new features stand out:

๐Ÿ“บ On Rockchip #RK3566 / #RK3568, MIPI-#DSI displays are now supported (pictured here running #bareDOOM).

๐Ÿญ For the barebox TLV factory data format, signatures can now be generated & verified. (See the upcoming FOSDEM talk: https://fosdem.org/2026/schedule/event/97DP7F-tamper-resistant_factory_data_from_the_bootloader/ for more info).

Got myself a used #POWKIDDY #RGB30 #RK3566 #RetroHandheld as a VERY belated birthday gift for myself! People seem to largely get this type of device for retro emulation but I am just as excited for #portmaster and #pico8 in a handheld form factor!

Doable since the #RocknixOS image was with a mainline kernel. Nice work put in for the pmOS port. It makes me daydream about a mobile workstation type device. With an external keyboard.

made a small amount of progress โœจ

managed to hack an existing image for the #Pine64 #SoQuartz blade for running #AlpineLinux and it works!

i felt that the #RK3566 chip was running a little hot so i decided to add a little heartsink as well

did a little test to see if the NVMe SATA adapter works by hooking up two spare harddrives i had, and they showed up on lsblk

now i just need to design the mounts for the blade and harddrives โœจ

Anyone using #rk3566 #RetroGaming #retrohandheld . I added btrfs support along with fixing ipv6 and new pmic driver for rk3566; automount and merged storage to #rocknix You'll likely want to create and populate the sdcard with btrfs with force-compress:zstd:5 on a beefy machine l. I've had an #Anbernic #RGArcS sitting around in a box waiting for me to play with it for months and I just now learned about #RockNix

> #JELOS (ROCKNIX) is an immutable #Linux #distribution for #handheld #gaming devices focused on #retroGaming #emulation. It is #openSource

It supports #RockChip/ #AmLogic devices from #OrangePi #Powkiddy #IndieDroid #HardKernel and #Gameforce too!

NanoPi R3S is a tiny PC or router with 2 Gigabit Ethernet ports and an RK3566 processor

The FriendlyELEC NanoPi R3S is an inexpensive single-board computer that measures just 57 x 57mm (2.24โ€ณ x 2.24โ€ณ) but features two USB ports, dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, and a microSD card reader.

With no DisplayPort or HDMI ports, this little computer could be a good solution for headless applications: you could use it as a cheap, tiny router or file server. But thereโ€™s also a MIPI-DSI [โ€ฆ]

I gave up on the #linux #arm64 #steamlink idea. There's just too many issues to work around. Instead I've resolved to building the #aosp #bsp for #rk3566 and including steamlink. It works, now I just have to figure out how to make it start automatically and act as the default app.
