Upgrade Enterprise Linux c

I guess I f'd up when I installed my #rhel8 #vm to replace the #rhel7 one I had for myself at work. /boot couldn't install the latest kernel since it was too large. Even after deleting the only other kernel aside from the latest I was running off of, it was 19MB short.

Looking into it, the consensus was a lot of fearmongering about not touching it and just reinstall the OS. Yeesh. Sure, just do it again and get all my settings together again, no problem.

*DISCLAIMER*: Maybe don't do this unless you are willing to burn your system and start over from scratch (or better yet, reload your snapshot/backup you took before you did this, amirite?)

I just said "f it" and downloaded a #gparted live cd, popped it in the VM after adding 1GB (yeah, I know, overkill for /boot) to storage, then dragged that partition over that unallocated space. #vmware #rhel #linux #sysadmin #sysadminlife #sysadminproblems

Red Hat are detecting that a few of the default ciphers in the crypto-policies package they supplied in RHEL8 are now considered insecure.

Hopefully someone at Red Hat will see sense and update the crypto-policies to remove the insecure defaults.

This is on a RHEL 8.10 updated system.

I have successfully debugged a configuration issue on all of our #RHEL8 #Linux servers involving #rsyslog and #journald, and now I feel I've done enough for the day.

Does anyone here use brp_mangle_shebangs for #rhel8 rpm spec files? I am lost why my shebang excludes is not working 😐

Any help on syntax would be appreciated

#OpenELA Publishes Initial Source Code For Building #RHEL Derivatives
#CIQ (#RockyLinux), #SUSE, and #Oracle decided to form the Open Enterprise #Linux association (OpenELA) to collaborate around the development of distributions with compatibility against #RedHat Enterprise Linux and ensuring open and free access to EL source code. Today they are announcing initial #sourcecode available for their #RHEL8 and #RHEL9

@cloud_manul @nixCraft had #RedHat not killed #CentOS8, I might've even migrated a former employer/client to #RHEL8 but given their asshole moves, I pivoted them to @ubuntu / #UbuntuLTS instead...

The constant battle to keep #RHEL8 working in a production environment this last years has taken its toll.

I wish I could convince the powers that be to switch to #SUSE.

Linux admins, especially el8 (RHEL), if you happen to upgrade to RHEL (or thatever el8 distro) 8.8 which will install autofs-5.1.4-93, it will segfault if you have any direct automaps. At work, I have a crapload of file systems in my direct automomount map files, local and network.

I installed the autofs-5.1.4-103 RPM from pkgs.org and autofs is working just fine now with my direct automount maps. Thank you pkgs.org. Once again you have made me a very happy sysadmin.
