Tomorrow, NSW will come together to honour the remarkable life of Dame Marie Bashir. A State Funeral will be held at St James’ Church in Sydney on Wednesday 4 February.
At around 12.30pm, the NSW Rural Fire Service Large Air Tanker Marie Bashir, named in her honour, will fly over Phillip Street as the hearse departs St James’ Church, subject to operational availability. The flyover marks her lifetime of service to the people of NSW.
Dame Marie Bashir served as Governor of NSW from 2001-2014, becoming the first woman to hold the role. A professor, psychiatrist and lifelong advocate for mental health, young people and Aboriginal communities, she made a lasting difference across the state.
Those wishing to pay their respects are welcome to gather in Martin Place, where the funeral will be live streamed from 10.00am (service begins 10.30am).
