Be kind, please unwind… Weekly Recap 4/20/2026
Does anyone remember renting movies?
No, no… I don’t mean “renting” a temporary streaming copy. I’m talking about physical movies.
And not DVD’s or Blu-rays. Like… a VHS tape.
Tapes had to be rewound before you could watch them again. You were supposed to rewind your rented videos before returning them to the rental company. And if you didn’t, they probably charged you a fee.
Anyway, some rental companies would put stickers on the VHS that reminded you of this duty. They’d say something like “Be kind, please rewind.”
I’m stealing that slogan today with a slight modification. I’ve changed “rewind” to “unwind.”
Because unwinding at the end of a long day is kind to the self.
And when I unwind, I tend to watch old reruns of Star Trek. What do you do?
Daily writing prompt How do you unwind after a demanding day? View all responsesGood morning and happy Monday, friends!
This weekend has been filled with travel. The general plan was… wake up around 5am one day, drive to Miami, hop on a plane to Boston, rent a car, and drive to Rhode Island. Certainly seems like a roundabout way to get to a destination, I know, but it was (by far) cheaper than flying directly there.
We’ve got a teenager who needed to visit a college.
Anyway, I’m sitting here in a Boston hotel writing this. We’ll fly back home at some point tomorrow (or as you read this: today).
It’s been a fun trip. Let me show you some highlights.
This pineapple arch is at the entrance to one of Providence’s strips of nightlife.
Some people say it looks like a pinecone. I’m pretty sure it’s a pineapple. Regardless, we went there to get dinner.
We just randomly picked the restaurant, so I was not expecting such spectacular food. Holy smokes, we found a winner: Trattoria Appia. If we’re ever back in the area, we’ll definitely be returning. Best bread pudding (and I do not say that lightly) that I’ve had in years.
Tons of daffodils everywhere. I guess New Englanders love daffodils.
And we met a local turkey. This guy thought he was a king.
I’ve been achieving maximum nostalgia by replaying classic games from my childhood. You may have seen that in recent months, I once again became a Pokemon master. Now I’m on a quest to save the land of Hyrule. Don’t worry, friends, I have the Master Sword. Victory will soon be at hand.
Come on, I need something to do at 3am in hotels.
Back in Boston, we walked around the grounds at Harvard. These are two random buildings that I took pictures of. I don’t know what they are, but one of them had a bell tower.
After a short walk, we decided to culture ourselves, so we stopped in at the Harvard Art Museum. There was a giant installation hanging from the ceiling of large, musical triangles.
They also had a Celtic art exhibit, which was pretty cool. Maybe I’ll put up some pictures later. There were golden torcs.
From there, we headed to the New England Aquarium.
Did I mention it was rainy and foggy? We could barely even see the city on the drive in. Here’s a picture of Boston Harbor.
Before the aquarium, we grabbed a lobster roll. After all, how could we visit Boston without getting a lobster roll?
And then we saw penguins.
There was plenty more that happened in the week, but at the moment, I’m pretty wiped. We have more driving and flying ahead of us.
That’s all for now. Stay tuned for more soon!
