V článku to není úplně dobře vysvětleno. Detonační vlna způsobí lepší spalování paliva a okysličovadla. To malinko zvýší specifický impuls motoru. A to poměrně citelně zahýbe s Ciolkovského rovnicí.
Nejspíše to furt nebude stačit na SSTO(Single Stage To Orbit), Země má pořád o trochu větší g, než by bylo vhodné, ale ekonomika nosičů by se mohla přece jen zlepšit.

NASA has had another successful test of the Rotating Detonation Rocket Engine (RDRE) which set new records, of 25,810 newtons of thrust for 251 seconds.

These engines use simpler mechanics, and less fuel than traditional rocket engines, making it possible to travel further and be cheaper than previous technologies allowed.
