@ralphruthe Leider hat sich nicht einmal jede zweite stimmberechtigte Person überhaupt dafür interessiert an diesem #Format der #Demokratie teilzuhaben. Die #Zustimmung empfinde ich als zu knapp um zu sagen die Bevölkerung wäre als Kollektiv weiter als die Parteien. Hinzu kommt, dass das andere Thema nicht einmal das #Quorum erreicht hat, was wahrscheinlich auch mit den aktuell mal wieder bemerkenswert schrecklichen Äußerungen über das #Bürgergeld und armutsbetroffene #Menschen zu tun hat.

Inner- und außerhalb von #Hamburg kann niemand behaupten mit #Geld und/oder #Klima keine Berührungspunkte zu haben. Jeweils für sich genommen und beide zusammen erst recht sind dermaßen existenziell, weitreichend, querschnittig, allumfassend, universal wie wenig andere Fragen.

Insgesamt kann ich mich daher nicht so wirklich freuen, selbst wenn das Anliegen als solches gut zu sein scheint (ich kenne nur den Titel, nicht den Inhalt).

  • Ernstgemeinte Frage, weil anders als bei @campact kann dort ne Petition mit #Quorum nicht konsequenzfrei ignoriert werden sondern jene*r Petent*in hat Anspruch auf Anhörung!

The #Texas Constitution (Art III, Sec 10) explicitly allows members to break #quorum. Only a court can determine if an elected official has “vacated” office, and only through a quo warranto action (a lawsuit challenging someone’s right to hold office).

#QuorumBreaking is not a felony. Fundraising to cover fines is not bribery. Bribery requires a corrupt agreement to influence an official act. Supporting a political protest is protected political speech. The idea that Abbott could extradite lawmakers for political protest is legally absurd and likely unconstitutional.

The “Quorum Rule” (Article III, Section 10) was intentionally added to the 1876 Texas Constitution. It is one of the strictest quorum rules in the nation. It was designed to slow things down, force consensus, and protect the minority from being steamrolled.

Breaking quorum is legal, constitutional, and has been used by both parties before.

There are actually good reasons why a dissenting body may want to break #quorum . The biggest is to force actual legislation to be passed in order to calm dissent. This is pretty common in controversial things. Redistricting doesn't require legislation, or even a resolution. And that's what the #democrats may be after is forcing this legislatively, which is actually a good tactic. If it can't be resolved in any way, it should auto go to voters.
