Here's "Tumbling Blocks" in wood and fabric. This was the #QuiltBoxes signature block. It is a classic #quilt pattern but also a common 3D illusion seen in #marquetry.
"Friendship Ring", aka "Dresden Plate", was another pattern we wouldn't have tackled without the laser cutter. I got attached to many boxes and was really sad when they sold (Dave was more pragmatic). I really wish we had kept one of these! #ArtAdventCalendar #Quilt #FriendshipRing #Quilter #Marquetry #QuiltBoxes
"Rose of Sharon" was the design that motivated me to join the #TVCoG #makerspace to learn the laser cutter. This pattern wasn't one I wanted to cut on the scroll saw! #ArtAdventCalendar #marquetry #Quilt #QuiltBoxes
Here's what the "Hearts and Gizzards" #quilt block does in 3D on a #marquetry cube. Fun pattern!

We never warmed up to the gray decorating trend. Tried it - just that one time!

"Carpenter's Wheel" is a traditional #quilt block built on a central "Lemoyne Star" of 8 diamonds. Making #LemoyneStar designs was much easier in wood than fabric, where all your seams come together at Y-shaped intersections that are very frustrating to sew.

We made "Columbia Star" #Quiltboxes before I ever did the pattern in fabric. Four-wood designs are a struggle, because you need strong contrast, but you can't always tell the color and value of the finished wood by looking at the raw veneer on the shelf.

Here's the #StormAtSea #quilt block again, but when it's applied to a #marquetry keepsake box, you get a 6-point star where the corners meet in 3D, instead of an 8-pointer on the wall art.

If we've offset the geometry correctly to compensate for the #Laser kerf width, all the veneer shapes fit together without gaps.

We're displaying this wall art at the Tech Valley Center of Gravity #MakerSpace for Victorian Stroll weekend in #TroyNY. We learned to run the #LaserCutter at #TVCoG so we could make more precise #Marquetry than was possible with the scroll saw. This is the traditional #Quilt pattern #StormAtSea (details in the Alt text). #ArtAdventCalendar #QuiltBoxes
