The app I've been using for non-Signal texts is about to go unsupported. The phone's manufacturer recommended switching to Google Messages.

Because Google, eww, I just switched to QUIK, a third party FOSS app, and made it my default. The switch was seamless, took under a minute, I like the interface and features, and it's working well so far.

I then opened the old default app, and got this sleazy splash screen.

If I didn't know better, I'd think Google Messages was now my default.

Update: I'm not sure what happened, but Messages just tossed a bunch of my recent SMS messages. People were telling me they were texting me, and I wasn't getting anything. I went back to QUIK, and I can see that I received a bunch of messages, but they're all blank. YEOUCH. Bad. D:

SMS messages from automated senders are frequently not arriving on my FOSS messaging apps on Android.

Testing now but so far Google's "Messages" app seems to be working.

Android apps failing are QUIK and "Messages" by Fossify.

Failing are SMS from DiDi "rideshare", a large bank and a health appointment reminder/confirmation service.
