I'm thinking of getting a Quest 3 to mix up the focal distance I look at all day. Any good reason I shouldn't?

Type and scroll on any surface! #Meta publishes Surface Keyboard & Touchpad experimental feature for #Quest3 in the v85 PTC Early Access channel

Excited to share that Surface Keyboard & Touchpad is now available on Meta Quest 3 via the v85 PTC Early Access channel under Experimental Features. Surface Keyboard turns any physical surface into a typing area, enabling all-finger input and higher text-entry throughput than index-finger-only floating keyboards. Just like a physical keyboard, you don’t have to look down. You can keep your gaze forward and type naturally. That moment, when typing simply works without visual attention, feels surprisingly magical. (Hunt-and-peck typing is supported as well.) Surface Touchpad introduces a trackpad-inspired input model, much like a laptop’s trackpad, bringing familiar precision targeting into XR. It enables fine-grained cursor control and gestures such as two-finger scrolling. This capability becomes crucial in productivity scenarios involving smaller or denser interfaces, such as color pickers or font dropdowns that are difficult to target with hand rays or controller rays. Rather than replacing physical Bluetooth keyboards or trackpads, these input modalities are designed for on-the-go productivity. They are well suited for quick chat replies, short-form email writing, web searching and browsing, and other lightweight tasks where carrying extra devices isn’t ideal. As an experimental feature, this is very much a work in progress. There are known limitations in performance, recognition, and feedback, and we see this release as an opportunity to learn in the open. Grateful to the incredible partners and colleagues I had the privilege to work with on this effort. Advancing input and interaction in spatial computing consistently requires deep collaboration across design, engineering, and research, and it was this shared commitment that made it possible to bring what once felt like science fiction into reality. Below is a quick video I captured in a coffee shop and on a flight, demonstrating Surface Keyboard and Touchpad in everyday computing scenarios. Vision Pro M5 at $3,499 vs Quest 3 at $499 🤔
✅ Vision Pro: 23M pixels, M5 chip, enterprise power
✅ Quest 3: Gaming library, 515g lightweight, value
The $3K gap tells the whole story.
Which fits your workflow?

I guess it would be very risky to buy a Meta Quest 3 headset now when Meta has stopped its Metaverse thing.
Note to the clueless: There are lots of fun and useful uses for VR headsets that are in no way related to Zuck's "Metaverse" fantasy. Some headsets, like the Quest, even have apps (games) that run *in* the headset, they are not just VR accessories that need a PC. Still, I assume there is a real risk that Meta kills the Quest business, too, when it kills its Metaverse thing.
Note 2: Personally I have zero interest in in the type of games that run in VR headsets themselves. I use VR for games that run on the PC, mainly Flight Simulator.
So I need to look elsewhere for an eventual replacement for my HP Reverb G2.

I had to know if Kitsune Tails ran directly on the Meta Quest 3 at >120fps and at 1080p via GameNative.
It's kinda awesome that I *can* kick back on the coach, stare at the ceiling and play it with an Xbox controller.
(I'm bad at the game though)
