8/🧵 Your odds of getting traditionally published are better than most people think.
I was an editor in #TraditionalPublishing for years. I saw some truly awful writers make it to bookstores simply because they knew how to catch an editor's attention and sell their work.
Whether it's for short stories or books, you need to know how to RESEARCH the various publishers so you can target which one to send to. Don't waste time sending your vampire romance to a religious publisher.
Whatever their #SubmissionGuidelines, FOLLOW them.
Write a good #QueryLetter with a great HOOK. Catch the attention right off. Don't come across as an amateur or unimaginative.
Some lines to avoid in #QueryLetters include "I always wanted to be a writer" (everyone who submits a manuscript can say that), and "Dear Sir or Madam" (RESEARCH the publisher and verify the editor's name).
After that, you need *persistence* to keep it up until you're published.
