Every Daily Gathering comes with a full audio read-through — the whole issue, start to finish, in a human voice.

It's there for blind and low-vision readers, for anyone whose eyes are tired or whose hands are full, for the people who carry the news better through the ear than the page. The news that's burning, then the medicine to carry it — out loud, every morning.

That audio is one of the things paid membership keeps alive. No oligarch, no ad network selling you back your own fear — reader-funded, full stop. If a morning read in your own ear is worth it to you:

She could not find a trans Muslim role model. So she became one.

Faye Kingston came to the UK at sixteen carrying a secret that bent every choice before she made it. She names the years she couldn't picture a future, the sister she drifted from — and then the honesty that got her to the other side. Eleven years ago she met the man she'd marry, who reminded her she deserved room. The sister came back.

A sixteen-year-old is reading her words in secret tonight, terrified of losing everyone. Faye is proof the dark has an exit.

Read her, in today's issue → https://twp.ai/4hrm6w

She built her voice across years, low and easy, the way you set a temperament — one careful note leaned into the next. The worst of it: her throat closing over the bare idea of using it in front of them. "Unison" is about the instrument you make by hand being taken off you in a crowded car.

Unison: Ride The Long Black Train

Experience a visceral journey through grief and solitude as a woman boards the long black train. A lyrical meditation on fear, survival, and the quiet moments that reshape us.

Her hands could find the one beating string in a chord of three. In a crowded train, two men take her voice off her. Nobody meets her eyes. Read "Unison": https://twp.ai/9OXfxc #TransLit #QueerFiction #LGBTQIA #ShortStory #Transgender #Bookstodon #QueerVoices

A headshot. A short audio clip. A husband mentioned once. That was all it took for researchers to measure exactly what a face and a voice still cost. Across 1,971 adults, simply being gay dropped a candidate's support by seven points — and a gender-nonconforming look or sound dropped it another seven. The bias didn't die. It went to finishing school, learned to vote blue, and still flinches at a soft consonant, a loose wrist, a man who moves through the world like he was never asking permission.

New research, 1,971 adults: being gay cost a candidate 7 points. Looking or sounding gay cost another 7. And Democrats punished gender nonconformity at nearly the Republican rate. We moved from "don't be gay" to "don't sound gay" — and called it progress.

So.. I finally did a thing. For twenty years I've been meaning to do this. I wanted it to be perfect. But like everything else, it was slapped together in two hours, in the middle of the night and then I spent the morning trying to get it uploaded. I didn't even preview it. I can't. If I do, I guarantee I would end up discarding it. A toddler could probably do a better job making a podcast episode, ironic because I was so baked I was basically being a toddler. But if I didn't take this opportunity to foist this fresh pile of dung upon, and upload it to the masses, I would keep waiting even longer. I will probably regret this. :bear_shrug: https://makertube.net/w/sgwVmRzp2Hvze5ahLYRWCW

Today's issue carried five hard things at once: the DOJ's 197-page declaration that your rights are a sin, the barnacle geese rerouting around a broken map, the 90% USAID cut now exporting anti-queer violence to the Global South, the herbs and breath that hold your nervous system through it, and the queer heroes who refused to wait for permission. No advertisers own us. No oligarchs fund us. Just readers who decided this work was worth keeping. If today lived in your chest, click one ad — costs nothing — or become a member. That is the actual mechanism by which the morning gets survived. The roots only reach as far as the soil that holds them.

Mariela Castro, Cuban sexologist and director of CENESEX, pushed her country toward a 66.85% national referendum that legalized same-sex marriage, adoption, and surrogacy — in a country where being openly gay was illegal 35 years prior. Dustin Lance Black, Mormon-raised, won an Academy Award for Milk in 2008 and helped take Hollingsworth v. Perry to the Supreme Court, toppling Prop 8 and seeding Obergefell. Tarana Burke founded the me too movement in 2006, two decades centering Black, brown, and queer survivors whose stories had been systemically erased — programming that has now reached over 6 million people. The thread does not break.
