The one thing that I particularly liked about #TastefullyYours was how well they portrayed the Jeonju Hanok Village. And they exist in multiple locations around the country, especially in Seoul and Busan. New businesses in the area must use the traditional style of construction. The food in Jeonju, home of bi bim bap, is excellent.
The Hanok Village is extremely touristy and I smiled to see the 4-leaf clovers like they featured in #QueenOfTears

The leads, the locations, and the OST were all fabulous on first watch. However, @whoosh and I tried rewatching, and those hideous villains just overwhelmed the story. It was great to watch while currently airing.

The writers have done a great job of weaving several complex storylines into a coherent whole. The cast is fabulous including many truly hateful villains, along with many good-hearted characters who are there to save the day at key moments. They really pack in a lot of story in 16 episodes, but the direction and acting are top-notch. The story never loses its impact or coherence as it unfolds, and you'll be on the edge of your seat for every episode. Five stars.

Queen of Tears is a mega-popular drama from 2024 which, at times, threatens to overwhelm the viewer with a nutrient-dense stew of high-stakes romance, moral dilemmas, intrigue and seemingly every trope in the book. Nevertheless, the creators have pulled off a tour de force, with every character and nuance somehow working together to create a powerful and memorable blockbuster of a drama.

Day 11: All The Tropes

A bit apprehensive about todays choice because of …, but anyway

Queen of Tears - This has almost everything; chaebols, white trucks, memory loss, side arcs, umbrellas etc. I think the only thing missing is time travel.

… guess the tropes even spilled over into the real world. 💀

Kim Ji Won is great as always.

15-Feb : Most beautiful location?

For this year's dramas:

"Queen of Tears" has some of the most beautiful sets - the home, the department store, the small town, the aquarium, but the location shots in Germany were gorgeous - not only the buildings & monuments, but the field of flowers.

As for gorgeous locations within S. Korea, I think "Love Next Door" did a great job - the temple, the neighborhoods, the onggi pots all provided beautiful backdrops.

As my spouse and I work our way through our list of KDramas, we've had fun watching (sometimes struggling to understand) the English speaking scenes. But Kim Ji-won's performance in Queen of Tears has been impressive. Crystal clear, way to go!

It's interesting how in previous shows, actors will memorize English lines. They're technically correct, but stress the wrong syllables making it difficult to understand. That's probably how my Korean might sound to them.

In other news, still no American actors that are really American. It'll happen!

#kdrama thoughts of the day:
I rewatched #Nevertheless and appreciated it even more the second time around. Following a group of art students as they sculpt their way towards graduation and some sexy (by k-drama standards) love stories and great scenery and soundtrack. There is a Japanese version on Netflix that focuses more on the perspective if the ML that I'd like to watch.
Tried to rewatch #QueenOfTears which I greatly enjoyed first time but I HATED all of the villains and their stories.
