Being present sounds simple.

In practice, it can be surprisingly difficult.

Our attention is often pulled towards what happened yesterday or what might happen next.

Quaker worship invites us to begin where we are, rather than where we wish we were.

Sometimes that is enough.

Today at the meeting house, I was reading Quaker faith and practise, dwelling on the realities of growing poverty in the UK, USA and other 'Developed' countries whilst the world has a first, but likely not last trillionaire.
I came across the following , which sums up my feelings on money and power, and the growing chasm between rich and poor.
We need to empower people, give people freedom to self control. Not funnel more money into places with no value to society.

..Poverty and powerlessness are bound up with each other. Poverty leads to powerlessness, and powerlessness leads to poverty.
23.22 - Martin Wyatt, 1988

Also, pause judgement from people in poverty, as they are powerless, and others, in select groups, have it within their power to make it otherwise for much of humanity, rather than racing to find a way to escape our planet.
