It’s been a fun weekend. I got #lcxterm resurrected and this time cleanly restarted on codeberg. Honestly if LCXterm had existed, I probably would never have written #qodem.

It has a ways to catch up to the last seven years of terminal innovations, but it can still fill in some gaps right now. Here we have it demonstrating how the GPM feature request for #zellij might look.

I am currently doing some testing with #rc2014bbs and there is something strange here:

#rcbox #BBS runs on a Z80 CP/M system ( #rc2014 ) and I am using the CP/M file transfer tool KMD.COM to #transfer #files to and from the system via #xmodem (CRC and 1K - both possible).

This seems to work as long as the client machine up- or downloading files is an #8bit machine: a RC2014 with #Qterm works, a #Commodore64 with #CCGMS works - but as soon as I try to use #Syncterm or #Qodem or any other modern #Linux #terminal #program the transfers fail with either "error in header" or, more often, with "CRC error".

How is this possible?! 🤔

Los #BBS o Sistemas de Cartelera Electrónica fueron un método de comunicación de datos muy popular desde inicios de la década del 1980 hasta su decline a finales de la década de 1990.

Consistían en un enlace de datos computado generalmente casero o hobbista pero en ocasiones institucional, accesible a través de la línea telefónica. Se ejecutaba en una computadora provista con un módem, que quedaba a la espera en la línea.

Al lograr enlazar con el BBS, el mismo permitía dar de alta usuarios individuales y solía presentar un menú de opciones. Estas ofrecían uso de correo electrónico local, transmisión de ficheros. Eventualmente podían contar con juegos simples en modo texto u otros servicios más avanzados o externos.

Las BBS estaban fuertemente localizadas (ya que dependían del pago de llamadas de corta distancia para ser viables). En ocasiones eran temáticas, o constituían un círculo de expresión telemática notable.
