Security Patches

InfoSec

Regardless of which Operating System you run, it is important to keep up with the critical updates to keep your machines as safe as possible

  • Realize that by the time a critical bug has been reported, verified, patched and delivered to your distribution of choice, a significant amount of time has passed...
  • From the first day the bug has been discovered [zero day] to the day you patch your computing machine, you've had a vunurable open machine in that one respect.
  • Keep the amount of time between the availability, of patches & the update of your machines, especially your VMs (Qemu et al) & physical servers as short as possible
  • Make sure to always use manual updates on your server VM's!
  • I shall not explain why, start reading on Wikipedia and furthe, the explanation is too long for this short post

Notes:

  • every OS can have vunurabilities
  • Security in obscurity does not work!
  • you are not secure because you run obsolete AmigaOS QNX or cool and niche *BSD as an OS
  • buffer overflows hide everywhere
  • I reguraly find them!

@santi @muito_pelo @goosey propably because they want to renew interest amd potentially gain new licensees.

  • Not shure why anyone would choose #RiscOS in 2026 and it's "Cooperative Multitasking" but maybe a 'mature codebase' makes it more interesting. Similar to #OpenVMS ¹, #QNX ², #VxWorks ³ and #WindRiverLinux trying to increase adoption by those that demand a more hardened and deterministic performing OS…
RISC OS - Wikipedia

If I could, I’d be running #qnx and #freebsd instead of macOS and Linux.

Wow... Blackberry really hit a vein with the #qnx developer desktop. Trying to read the docs and mostly getting 429 "Too Many Requests".

I have QNX 8.0 on my rpi4 and it's definitely cool and fun. I'm really interested in the desktop now too.

Anyway, if anyone knows someone or happens to work at Blackberry on QNX then I'd appreciate a little nudge to get my resume actually seen. :D

interesting: #qnx have adopted apk as their system package manager: https://www.qnx.com/developers/docs/qnxeverywhere/com.qnx.doc.qdd/topic/using_apk.html

and they use #abuild now too: https://github.com/qnx-ports/qsc-apk/tree/main

and they even comply with the GPL license, but their patch is not mergable in the current state: https://github.com/qnx-ports/aports/blob/803/core/apk-tools/0001-qnx-compat.patch

Using the package manager

The Alpine Package Keeper (APK) is the package manager originally created for the Alpine Linux distribution. It has been ported to QNX to be used as a package manager for the QNX Developer Desktop ...

QNX — второе дыхание в ретрогейминге Super Nintendo

Super Nintendo

Ранее опубликованная статья была ориентирована, в большей степени, на аппаратную часть, в части подбора видеокарт, для игры в портированные «Q3 Arena» и «DOOM». Здесь я не буду повторять процедуру...

AMD Embedded+ mini-ITX Board features Ryzen AI Embedded P132 CPU, Versal AI Edge Gen2 VE3558 SoC FPGA

At CES 2026, Sapphire Technology introduced the EDGE+VPR-7P132, an "AMD Embedded+" Mini-ITX motherboard built around AMD's newly announced Ryzen AI Embedded P100 series of SoCs, namely the hexa-core Ryzen P132 (V4526iX) CPU, and an AMD Versal AI Edge Gen 2 VE3558 SoC FPGA, which features octa-core Arm Cortex-A78AE + ten Cortex-R52 real-time cores beyond FPGA fabric. It's the first AMD Ryzen AI Embedded motherboard we've seen. It represents a massive update from last year’s Edge+ VPR-5050 motherboard, which relied on Zen 2-based Ryzen Embedded V2000 series and first-generation Versal silicon. The new VPR-7P132 skips multiple generations, jumping straight to Zen 5 CPU cores and RDNA 3.5 graphics, with an upgraded Versal Gen 2 adaptive Edge AI SoC for real-time inference, along with faster LPDDR5 (4266MHz) memory and 40 Gbps USB4 connectivity.
