I had issues with the space bar on my keyboard occasionally registering two presses, so I upped the debounce timeout from 5ms to 10ms in my #QMK_firmware, flashed it and the problem seems to be gone.

Now, given, I've never had this issue before with any other keyboard, but it feels good to be able to control what runs on your hardware.

Today I managed to compile QMK for my framework 16 keyboard.
I only had to fix a deprecated subcommand, another deprecated property and some other stuff in my copy of their repository for that...
But now I have fully working Space Cadet with an ISO layout.
Although: I dont quite know whether Space Cadet normally includes {} and []?

Neat... now that I have a #qmk_firmware capable keyboard with RGB leds (which I didn't even want), I can use my keys as notification lights :), e.g.:

./run_long_stuff.sh && flash_green || flash_red

Hey Fedi!

I need your help today! Would greatly appreciate it!

I have recently finished the Ploopy Mouse I posted on my feed, however I've been having a hard time trying to setup and understand how to use QMK. I just want to have it setup so I can end up editing the buttons and whatnot to what I want later on, including DPI and such.

I'll reply with more info.

motherfucker, fuck you, don't fucking unmount my fucking shit, you fucking fucker

#nixos #framework #framework16 #qmk #qmk_firmware

framework 16 has no physical buttons for the trackpad, and that was driving me nuts, so I decided to map the right alt and right ctrl keys to left and right mouse buttons

except the qmk keyboard firmware had mousekeys disabled

so I changed that in their code, but then the keyboard in dfu mode kept getting immediately unmounted after being mounted by udisks2, so I disabled udisks2, but then I had no fucking idea where to mount the drive for the qmk flash to work, thankfully when I mounted it to /media/noxy it just worked and now I have physical mouse buttons!

that was a fucking journey

I will never buy a keyboard that doesn't run QMK. I love this firmware so much. If you've got enough sight to navigate a computer visually, you can get one that supports VIA on top of QMK and manage your keymap with no code through a web app. If you're blind and have no coding experience, don't worry. QMK isn't too hard to learn, there are oodles of documentation, and you'll end up with a keyboard that fits your needs perfectly. Want a numpad for NVDA and you're also eyeing that lovely 75% or even 65% from Keychron or Keeb.io? No prob. Just throw that numpad onto a secondary layer. As someone who would only let her numpad be taken from her cold, dead hands, I now happily use a 60% and just hold down a key whenever I need that sweet, sweet tenkey for object navigation. My hands hardly leave the home row, my wrists are happier, and I accomplish tasks faster by reducing my finger movements. If I want to experiment with a different keymap, I just compile and flash the firmware in a few minutes. Want a key that restarts your screen reader? You can do that. Want to toggle between two sets of keys to switch between a Windows and a Mac? You can do that even without the fancy slider switch on Keychron boards (although that is a very nice hardware feature in its own right). The world of custom keyboards is a little intimidating at first, but this is, by far, the most flexible option for blind computer users. @mastoblind #qmk_firmware #blind #mechanical_keyboard

After a lesson, discussing #keyboard layouts and the #qmk_firmware with one of my students.

Me: There’s a really nice guide about home row mods. You should read it.

Student: I wrote it.

Me: mindblow…

Sometimes, I wish I could keep contact with all the wonderful students I’ve seen in my class.

A guide to home row mods

What are home row mods? What is a mod-tap? What settings do you need to use? What are the alternatives? And more in this article...

Hello!

I soldered it all and deployed the thing lmao #arduino #QMKkeyboard #qmk_firmware
