💡 Rethinking workflow orchestration: using #PostgreSQL not just as a data store, but as the orchestration layer itself.

At #QConSF 2025, Jeremy Edberg & Qian Li tackled workflow failures, complex recovery, and visibility challenges in distributed systems.

The real consequential decisions in engineering aren't made in sprint planning. They're hidden in the 'invisible choices': metrics, defaults & everyday behaviors.

The industry is focused on the wrong things. The choices that truly shape systems & culture are the ones that go unnoticed and unexamined.

I’m spending the next few days at QCon Software Development Conferences San Francisco and I will post reactions and comments as threads on this post. My own talk is at 5pm today. Starting off with an opening keynote by Nicole Forsgren who I just said hi to and found out recently moved back from Microsoft to Google. The event is well attended and has many first time attendees going by the audience at the keynote. It’s their 19th year and it’s very well run at at an iconic location. The Hyatt where Mel Brooks filmed High Anxiety.

I will be in San Francisco next week for #QConSF attending a lot of talks and giving my own one. https://qconsf.com/presentation/nov2025/directing-swarm-agents-fun-and-profit

Coding agents are a new tool, which many of us are trying to figure out how to use effectively.

AI generates code 10x faster but creates 3x more review costs. You haven't gained efficiency, you've moved the bottleneck.

The real bottleneck in 2025 isn't technology, it's validating it fast enough.

What if implementation speed is no longer the bottleneck?

Adam Wolff built Claude Code entirely with agentic AI from day one. His #QConSF 2025 session reveals what engineering looks like when the constraint shifts from execution to judgment.
