Punatulkku herkuttelee vaahteran siemenillä – Bullfinch feasts on maple seeds

Kun tuuli ja lyhyt lämmin jakso on paikoitellen paljastanut maahan pudonneet vaahteran siemenet lumen alta, niin punatulkut ovat niitä innokkaasti syömässä. Osa siemenistä tuntui jäätyneen maahan kiinni, mutta lintu sai voimakkaalla nokallaan kaivettua ne irti. Puihin jää myös siemeniä roikkumaan, ja ne ovatkin talvella punatulkun mieliruokaa.

When the wind and short warm period have in places revealed the fallen maple seeds from under the snow, bullfinches are eagerly eating them. Some of the seeds seemed to be frozen to the ground, but the bird was able to dig them out with its powerful beak. Seeds are also left hanging on the trees, and they are bullfinch's favorite food in winter.
