Flora and Fauna Aliens

We’ve stayed in this same location in Virginia for a few summers now and it’s always a weird delight to see these Purple Passionflower blooms there as they appear almost alien.

When we moved to our current home in 2015, I was delighted to find a patch of #PurplePassionflower down by our little muddy pond. This #native plant is the #host for #GulfFritillary #butterflies, so I would frequently check for #caterpillars, often finding them. I also collected fruits and attempted to get new patches established. This work finally paid off this weekend, when from the pupa I'd been following emerged a new adult Gulf Frit!
