We are proud to organize an array of free & PWYC local programming in a time of year where it is often lacking, and where the majority of programming offered often leaves the majority of local puppet artists underemployed and unable to access what we spend year-round building up in Chicago.

QUINTRON AND MISS PUSSYCAT / EVIL SWORD

Quintron and Miss Pussycat have been making genre-defying noise and hard rocking dance music in New Orleans for over twenty years. The majority of their 17 full-length albums have the psychedelic soul of traditional New Orleans party music, filtered through a Hammond organ, technicolor puppets, and a battalion of distorted, homemade instruments. After the release of "Goblin Alert" (Goner 2020), the duo expanded to sometimes include other New Orleans musicians for live shows.
Quintron and Miss Pussycat's sweaty musical blasts are paralleled in spirit and performance by Miss Pussycat's "dreamy puppet worlds“ elaborate, and beautifully crafted for success in intimate venues of late-night drinking and dancing. She has also had several major solo museum exhibitions of ceramics, paintings and other visual work related to her puppetry.
In addition to his work with Miss Pussycat, Quintron has been releasing albums featuring a self-made weather synthesizer called Weather Warlock, which uses sun, rain, temperature, and wind to make music. He has also played organ on a number of records by other artists, most notably The Oblivians ("9 songs") and Steve Riley's "Grand Isle" which was nominated for a Grammy in 2012.
Miss Pussycat and Quintron have also produced several puppet films, including "North Pole Nutrias" (WLAE), "Trixie and the Treetrunks" (Vice Media), and "Frenchy and Jett" (Disney).
The Quintron / Miss Pussycat experience is one of barely controlled electronic chaos, "Swamp-Tech" dance beats, small explosions, incredible clothes, and entertaining puppet stories. You can see them perform regularly at The Spellcaster Lodge in New Orleans 9th Ward, or on one of their many tours around the world. This act somehow has equal relevance in sleazy nightclubs, pizza restaurants, and university lecture halls.
Quintron regards his most significant creation to be a patented instrument called THE DRUM BUDDY, a light activated analog synthesizer which creates murky, low-fidelity, rhythmic patterns. Notable DRUM BUDDY clients include performers Nels Cline of Wilco, Laurie Anderson, Fred Armisen, and DJ Mr. Dibbs.

EVIL SWORD
There used to be a whole bunch of them, some playing music and more doing I don’t even know what. Banging pots and pans around, climbing up and down ladders, throwing garbage out of a sack, reciting their lines and performing strange dances. Now it’s down to just two, but they’re still throwing things and flashing lights in your eyes, so it’s not all that different than before. The thing is, there’s hardly any instruments in this group, but they make such a racket you’d never know it. The bass and the percussion sound like they’re having a great time, telling each other jokes. Then the words come in and it all locks together in these strange, hypnotic rhythms. I just listen to the stories and laugh and cry and get scared and wonder what they were ever thinking.
